Horizon Properties to redevelop movie theater property in South Fayette

Text of news article:

South Fayette Township has finalized the sale of the former Star City Cinemas to Canonsburg-based Horizon Properties Group LLC, according to an announcement by the township.

The $5 million sale, approved by the South Fayette Township Board of Commissioners on Sept. 16, is expected to make way for a mix of new uses on the 8.5-acre property. Horizon plans to build a 30,000-square-foot office building, a hotel and 10,000 square feet to 15,000 square feet of shops and restaurants on a site located at Route 50 and Interstate 79.

After the cineplex is demolished, the new project is expected to take 18 months to 24 months to build.

The township estimates the new development by Horizon will generate at least $25 million worth of new commercial property from which to generate tax revenue.

The sale is expected to help the township to expand a community center.
