Preventing Fraud Against Senior Citizens

If you are over 60 years old, you should be aware of possible fraud incidents. You could possibly be a target for person(s) who attempt to sell you something over the phone or stop at your residence. They may offer to do work at a cheap price, such as seal driveways, trim trees, or other types of work. Some telemarketing calls are legitimate, but unfortunately that is not always the case.

Tips

  • Always ask for the company's full name, address, phone number, and a clear explanation of the offer.
  • Check companies by contacting Consumer Protection Agencies.
  • Legitimate companies will allow you to "think about it" - if it's legitimate, it will be there later.
  • Never give telemarketers any financial information such as bank account, credit cards, or social security information.
