Trash & Recycling

Changes due to COVID-19

Waste Management must limit trash collection due to the coronavirus restrictions.

  • All trash must be secured in trash bags and be placed inside garbage cans if possible. Please limit the number of bags outside a container to TWO BAGS only.
  • Haulers will NOT accept:
    • Yard/leaf waste - grass clippings, brush, tree limbs, leaves, etc. (A dedicated collection was scheduled for May 2 in South Fayette, but this is subject to cancellation or change.)
    • Bulk Items – furniture, carpet rolls, mattresses, appliances, etc.
    • Spring clean-ups - any type of excess trash from spring cleanups

Please Note:

  • All trash/refuse must be bagged & sealed and, wherever possible, placed in containers. Loose items will not be collected.
  • All recyclable materials must be placed inside recycling bins (including cardboard). Do NOT bag recyclables. Items left outside of the bin will not be collected.

As always, electronics/TVs, chemicals and other prohibited items cannot be collected.

Thank you for your attention and cooperation. Limiting what we place at the curb helps ensure the most essential trash continues to be picked up during this challenging time.

Curbside Collection

South Fayette Township has a contract with Waste Management for curbside collection of garbage and mixed, single-stream recycling (PDF) at single-family homes and multi-family residences with four or fewer units. The services are paid through township taxes, with no additional fee charged to residents.View and print the recycling guidelines (PDF) for the list of accepted recyclables.
