Aviary After School (Grades 1-5)
Monday, January 30, 2023
This program is for children in grades 1 to 5. National Aviary after school programs are great STEM education tools, highlighting science, biology, geography and conservation in an exciting way. The National Aviary's team of Animal Ambassadors and dynamic educators helps students to understand the importance of conservation while discovering the natural world around them. Each class includes a visit from a live animal visitor!
Jan. 23: Bird Classification
Using hands-on observation technique and interactive activities, students will learn what characteristics make a bird, well, a bird! Students will also learn what makes different families of birds unique.
Jan. 30: Rainforest
Discover rainforest habitats through the eyes of the birds who live there. Students examine how rainforests, home to nearly half of the world's plant and animal species, support ecological balance as well as global economies. Students also learn why it is important for us to conserve this valuable natural resource.
Feb. 6: Owls
Owls are some of the most recognizable birds on Earth, yet they remain elusive to many because of their habitats and behaviors. Students encounter Animal Ambassador owls from around the world and discover the adaptations that make them successful hunters, day and night.
