[ARCHIVED] Mayview Road to reopen by late October

UPDATE (9/7/21):

The Boyce-Mayview intersection, including the Mayview Road closure, is expected to reopen to traffic by the end of October 2021, staying open during the late fall and winter. However, flaggers will direct alternating, one-lane traffic as needed to complete utility work.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 11 expects to resume major road work sometime in Spring 2022, with complete closures of Boyce Road and Mayview Road, in order to replace a culvert, add turning lanes and make other improvements.

Due to unforeseen issues with utility line relocations, PennDOT is not able to complete the Boyce-Mayview intersection improvement project this year as originally planned.

PennDOT is working with the project contractor to restore the impacted portions of Mayview and Boyce to a safe condition and reopen the roads to their previous configuration.

Flaggers will direct alternating, single-lane traffic while utility work is completed.

These are the detours and closures expected when work occurs in 2022:

Road Closure 1 - Mayview Road, West Side (Cecil Side)

  • Portion of Mayview Road between Boyce Road and Georgetown Road closes to thru-traffic
  • Roadway narrowing on Mayview and Boyce roads near the intersection
  • Detour, North of the Closure (see map):
    • From the intersection of Boyce and Mayview roads, take Boyce Road heading east
    • Turn left onto Washington Pike
    • Washington Pikes becomes Morganza Road
    • Turn left onto Georgetown Road
    • Follow Georgetown Road back to Mayview Road
  • Detour, South of the Closure (see map):
    • Same detour in the opposite direction

Road Closure 2 - Boyce Road, West Side (Washington Pike Side)

  • Detour:
    • Georgetown Road
    • Morganza Road
    • Washington Pike
    • Washington Avenue
    • Bower Hill Road
    • McLaughlin Run Road
    • Lesnett Road
    • Mayview Road

Road Closures 3 and 4 - Boyce Road, East Side (Route 19 Side) and Mayview Road, East Side (Hastings Side)

  • Detour:
    • Boyce Road
    • Washington Pike
    • Washington Avenue
    • Bower Hill Road
    • McLaughlin Run Road
    • Lesnett Road or Route 19

Single-Lane Alternating Traffic - Throughout Intersection Area

  • Daytime only: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • No full closures
  • Flaggers in place

Timelines depend on weather and utility line relocations, which must be completed in conjunction with the intersection project.
