Are you mad for minerals, crazy for crystals and frenzied for fossils? Join Junior Geologists for an action-packed week of geological exploration! We’ll discover the unique characteristics of the rocks, minerals, crystals and fossils in our area and beyond. We'll put our skills to the test to identify real rubies and emeralds among fakes, make replicas of a fossil raptor dinosaur tooth and even travel back in time to pan gold. Get ready to grow your very own glowing crystals, crack giant geodes, recreate volcanic eruptions, and learn about the important resources found in the earth. We’ll also discover the fascinating prehistory of South Fayette, discovering what it was like millions of years ago. We’ll learn which types of rocks you find here, and during a hands-on fossil hunt, we will search through and crack open ancient local rocks to expose fossils inside that have not seen the light of day for more than 300 million years. COVID-19 safety policies are in place.
