Public Works
South Fayette Township Public Works is essential to the maintenance of roads, parks, stormwater facilities, vehicles, equipment, buildings, and other township-owned property and infrastructure. The department is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Public Works Department includes a management team consisting of a director and a superintendent. The full-time union workforce includes heavy equipment operators, mechanics and general laborers / truck drivers. A Parks & Facilities Division handles parks maintenance. Each year, seasonal employees and summer help assist on a temporary basis.
About Public Works
Responsibilities and activities of the Public Works Department include, but are not limited to:
- Snow maintenance, such as plowing and salting
- Grass mowing and trimming
- Road improvements and pothole repair
- Storm sewer maintenance
- Park upkeep
- Street sweeping
- Wood chipping
- Debris cleanup
- Sign installation
- Utility line marking
- Building and facility maintenance
- Use and monitoring of herbicides and pesticides (appropriate employees are certified)
Report a Road Concern
The township, county or state may be responsible for repairing road issues, depending on who owns and maintains the road.

Wood Waste
South Fayette Township residents may drop off wood waste (limbs up to 4 inches in diameter only) at a special dumpster located at the Public Works facility, 515 Millers Run Road, South Fayette PA 15064, in the Morgan neighborhood.
Residents wishing to dispose of yard waste must contact Public Works in advance for approval. Call 412-221-8700 ext. 223.
This solution includes a controlled-access area with weekday operating hours from 7 AM to 3:30 PM.
Commercial use and landscaping businesses are strictly prohibited.
Please follow these guidelines for wood waste :
- No trees / branches / limbs larger than 4 inches in diameter
- No plastic bags
- No grass clippings
- No tinsel or decorations on Christmas trees
- No tree stumps
These are the exact same guidelines in place for the previous Wood Waste Recycling Center at Boys Home Park.
Site closed at Boys Home Park
In March 2024, South Fayette Township closed the previous Wood Waste Recycling Center at Boys Home Park due to unregulated and unauthorized dumping, along with associated environmental and safety concerns. The township replaced this facility with the managed dumpster system at the Public Works facility on Millers Run Road.
