[ARCHIVED] Cooling center available at municipal center during heat advisory

COOLING CENTER with sun and snowflake

Due to a heat advisory, a cooling center is available now through Fri. June 21 in the Lafayette Room at the South Fayette Township Municipal Center, 100 Township Drive, South Fayette PA 15017. Daily hours are 8 AM to 4 PM.

Residents needing refuge from the heat are asked to call the township office at 412-221-8700 prior to arrival.

A heat advisory is in effect until 8 PM Fri. June 21. A prolonged heat wave is expected throughout this week, with temperatures reaching the mid- to upper 90s each day and possibly the 100s in some locations. Excessive heat becomes especially dangerous when it lingers for more than one day.

Be prepared:

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Stay in air conditioning.
  • Stay out of the sun.
  • Check on neighbors.
  • Take extra precautions when outside.
  • Limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
