Newbury groundbreaking at The Gateway Shops

Community members attended a groundbreaking Dec. 22, 2015, for The Gateway Shops, the first retail building in the Newbury Market development at Route 50 and Interstate 79.

Some of the speakers included South Fayette Township Board of Commissioners president Joseph Horowitz; South Fayette school district superintendent Dr. Bille Rondinelli; Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald; and Newbury/EQA Landmark Communities president Brett Malky.

The 22,000-square-foot Gateway Shops is set to open in Summer 2016, with tenants to include Dollar Bank, AT&T Mobility, First Watch daytime cafe, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Noodles & Co., Envy Nail Spa, Yo Fresh Yogurt Cafe, an orthodontist and a dermatologist.

In addition to The Gateway Shops, the entire $450 million Newbury plan includes 225 single-family homes, 250 garden apartments and 1.2 million square feet of mixed-use commercial space such as a Courtyward by Marriott hotel, two office buildings, a dozen large retail stores, 15 smaller shops and more than 10 restaurants.
