Dogs must be leashed at all times in all parts of Fairview Park, effective immediately, including the area known as the Dog Run Free Zone. All 2016-2017 dog tag fees will be refunded in full.
South Fayette Township Board of Commissioners took the action Nov. 16, 2016, with the understanding that the township will continue to discuss and review the location, policy and operations of an off-leash dog area in the community.
Dogs are allowed on physical leashes in all township parks, including Fairview, Morgan, Sturgeon, Boys Home and the Panhandle Trail. Dogs must be under the owner’s control at all times, and owners must clean up after their dogs.
The change at Fairview Park was prompted by several issues, including recent dog-on-dog attacks, unlicensed off-leash dogs, animals that are off-leash outside the run-free zone, dog waste left throughout the park and an increase in activity and sports held in the park.
The township is increasing efforts to enforce dog rules in the parks. Please call 9-1-1 to report any violations.
