South Fayette Township is partnering with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to provide monthly distributions of free boxes of healthy, nonperishable foods, plus fresh cheese, to qualifying adults age 60 and up who meet the income guidelines.
How to Apply
Application must be made in person (starting Thursday, Jan. 26) at the South Fayette Township office, 515 Millers Run Road 15064, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). The applicant must bring:
- I.D. (Driver's License, Birth Certificate or Passport)
- Proof of Income (Social Security, Disability, Pension, Unemployment, Underemployment)
- The person(s) who plans to pick up the food (the applicant and/or a proxy)
For homebound citizens, proceudres are in place to register a caretaker or proxy. Applicants must apply and be approved and registered before they can begin receiving food boxes. Distribution will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the 4th Monday of each month (start date to be determined) at the South Fayette Township Building.
What's in the Box?
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) box includes bottles of 100% juice, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats and stews, milk, cereal, peanut butter, and more. Each box also comes with two pounds of fresh American cheese. Products are provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and distributed through the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The items are chosen to focus on seniors’ nutritional needs: high fiber, high protein, high calcium, low salt and low sugar.
