Columbia Pipeline Group plans to purge a gas line along Cecil-Sturgeon Road in South Fayette Township on Friday, Feb. 24 as part of a project to relocate pipes for the Southern Beltway highway construction. A purge, or blowdown, is a noisy but safe, controlled release of natural gas necessary when a line is being taken out of service for maintenance or construction. This activity will create a loud roaring sound for an extended period and a possible lingering gas odor in the surrounding area. Nearby property owners were notified.
