Blasting, or the use of explosives, has begun as part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s construction of the Southern Beltway highway in South Fayette Township. Rock blasting is permitted, as needed, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday through 2019. Crews are working in the area of Cecil-Sturgeon and Cecil-Reissing roads in the western part of the township.
Blasting may rattle windows, dishes and pictures hung on the wall, but blasting conducted within state regulatory limits will not damage home or property, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Citizens with questions or complaints should contact the DEP’s New Stanton District Mining Office at 724-925-5500.
