South Fayette Township is hosting Kids Play Day at 4 p.m. Weds. May 8 in Morgan Park (515 Millers Run Road, South Fayette PA 15064) to celebrate the installation of two Expression Swings that are funded by a $3,500 Play for Change grant.

The free, public event includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments, music, a balloon artist, a bounce house and other activities that encourage play. No registration needed.

The Expression Swings allow an adult and a child, or two children, to swing face-to-face, providing opportunities for multigenerational play and emotional bonding.

“This is the first step toward transforming our parks and playgrounds into spaces that offer more inclusive play for all ages and abilities,” Parks and Recreation Director Paula Willis said.

The GameTime Expression Swing has a bucket seat for children under five years old and a facing adult swing. The GameTime Expression Swing Universal includes an adult swing facing an adaptive seat that provides additional support for children ages 5 to 12 of all abilities.

Representatives and a family from the Watson Institute, whose Education Center South is located in South Fayette Township, will attend the event.

“The Watson Institute is proud of our partnership with South Fayette Township and to serve this community, and we are honored to be a part of this ribbon-cutting ceremony,” said Barry W. Bohn, CEO of the Watson Institute.

South Fayette Township Parks & Recreation was the only municipal organization to receive the Play for Change grant, which is funded by the Grable Foundation and the Benedum Foundation.
