[ARCHIVED] Car procession celebrating high school seniors set for Mon. June 1

Procession Map of affected roads

Families of South Fayette High School seniors are invited to participate in a vehicle procession Mon. June 1 to celebrate graduating students.

The school district and community are partnering with the South Fayette Township Police Department, South Fayette (Cuddy) Volunteer Fire Department and Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department to safely hold the parade.

“Due to the abnormal circumstances this year, we are willing to help the seniors say their good-byes in a safe, orderly vehicle procession,” Police Chief John Phoennik said.

Please note some traffic delays will occur from approximately 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the following roads: Millers Run, Old Oakdale, Battle Ridge, Oak Ridge and Presto-Sygan. (See map; affected areas highlighted in yellow.)

Accompanied by the police and fire departments, two groups of vehicles will leave from the fire departments at 7 p.m. and join up for a drive through the school campus on Old Oakdale Road, where teachers and school staff will cheer for the students. The general public is not permitted on the campus.

The parade will then leave the campus and proceed past Topgolf, 400 Presto-Sygan Road, to be cheered by the public. Community members may park only in the Topgolf parking lot and must stay inside their cars and practice social distancing.

Due to COVID-19, the school district plans to hold a virtual graduation ceremony, and an in-person ceremony if possible, in July.

For details about the school district portion of the event or to sign up to be in the senior parade, please contact English Department Chair Gary Smith.

For information about the community portion of the event, please contact resident Janice Marks.

For safety information, contact Police Chief John Phoennik: 412-221-2170.
