Officer Mike Kuchta holding certificate with three commissioners

South Fayette police officer Mike Kuchta has been recognized for saving the life of a resident.

In December 2021, Officer Kuchta responded within two minutes to an emergency medical call and found Tim Postufka, a 20-year township resident, in cardiac arrest.

Officer Kuchta, who is a certified Emergency Medical Technician, used an automated external defibrillator (AED) and performed CPR until the ambulance arrived from SouthBridge EMS.

"He jumped right in and performed the life-saving actions that allow me to be here today," Mr. Postufka said. "He's a true hero."

The South Fayette Township Board of Commissioners, Township Manager John M. Barrett and Police Chief John Phoennik presented Officer Kuchta with a certificate of recognition during the February board meeting.

Officer Kuchta has served in the South Fayette Police Department for more than 18 years.
