Be aware of spring solicitation

Posted on June 15, 2015 at 12:30 PM by Andrea Iglar

Spring has sprung! It’s that time of year again when everyone is on the go and enjoying the nice weather outside. Everyone loves the season, but it also brings to the forefront the issue of door-to-door solicitation.

South Fayette Township, like other communities, has solicitors who knock on doors hoping to sell something. Beware that sometimes these people are not operating legitimate businesses and are attempting to gain entry into your home, take your money and/or property, or gain your personal identity information for fraudulent uses. Identity theft is the number-one growing crime in America.

South Fayette Township requires that everyone selling door-to-door in the township have a solicitation permit with a photo ID. The information, along with a copy of the permit and photograph, is on record with the police department. If somebody cannot present a township-issued permit, contact emergency dispatch at 9-1-1 immediately and do not allow them into your home. The police department is on staff to serve you in this capacity.

So enjoy the nice weather, but be aware of your surroundings. You are the eyes and ears of the police. Thank you, and enjoy the season!
